SMS Sender ID changes
Why this matters
SMS remains one of the most trusted and effective ways to reach customers.
Scammers target trusted channels, like SMS to exploit consumer confidence.
Sender ID registration will strengthen trust and protect your brand.
With simple registration, you stay visible, verified and compliant.
Key dates
Registration is now open.
1 July 2026: Enforcement begins with overstamping of messages with ‘Unverified’.
Enforcement means if an organisation attempts to send SMS or MMS messages with unregistered sender IDs from 1 July 2026, the sender ID will be replaced with ‘Unverified’, or the message may be blocked.
Register early to avoid disruption.
ACMA has advised submissions received after May 15 will likely not make the 1 July 2026 deadline.
